2026 Polar Plunge Committee

The annual Polar Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics Arkansas made a splash last Saturday at Henderson Marina on Norfork Lake, raising more than $14,000 for local athletes.

Organizers say the total nearly doubles the amount raised during last year’s event, marking the most successful year yet for the fundraiser in the Twin Lakes Area.

Participants gathered at the marina for registration and awards before lining up for the chilly plunge into Norfork Lake. The event is part of a statewide series of Polar Plunges that raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes who train and compete year-round.

Community members, schools and law enforcement agencies were recognized for their fundraising efforts.

Yellville School raised the most money among schools, with Mountain Home finishing second.

Event organizers also credited a dedicated Polar Plunge Committee for helping make this year’s event a success by introducing new ideas and activities to increase participation.

Across Arkansas, thousands of residents participate in Polar Plunge events each year, helping support more than 19,500 Special Olympics athletes statewide.
