A new mural honoring the life and legacy of renowned fly fishing pioneer Dave Whitlock will be unveiled later this month in Bull Shoals.
The mural, created by local artist and fly fisherman Duane Hada, has been installed on Central Boulevard and will be officially unveiled during a public event Thursday, March 26, beginning at 5:30 that evening.
Hada said the project was created to recognize Whitlock’s lasting impact on the fly fishing world and the Ozarks.

Hada said Whitlock was also a personal friend and mentor, and the mural reflects many aspects of his life and connection to the region’s rivers and fisheries.

The mural is mounted on removable panels so it can be relocated in the future if needed. Hada said organizations, including the American Museum of Fly Fishing, have already expressed interest in the project.
Listen:
Hada speaks on Whitlock’s legacy and says the local fisheries would not exist as they do with out his influence.

The unveiling will coincide with the week of the annual Sowbug Roundup, an event Whitlock helped establish. Organizers say the gathering will include food trucks, visiting dignitaries and members of Whitlock’s family.
Hada says the event will serve as both a tribute and a celebration of a man whose influence helped shape fly fishing in Arkansas and beyond.
You can see more of Duane Hada’s mural art work all across the Twin Lakes area.
