
Additional reports included power outages across the state and numerous trees down in parts of Independence and Saline counties, caused by strong winds associated with the same storm system. In Saline County, one structure also sustained damage during the event.
With more severe weather forecasted this week, ADEM officials urge residents to stay weather-aware, monitor local forecasts, and review their household safety plans in preparation for potentially hazardous conditions.
Tornado Safety
-Identify a safe place in your home, such as a basement or small interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
-Have multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather radios, smartphone alerts, and local media updates.
-If youre caught outside or in a vehicle, move to the nearest sturdy building immediately. If thats not possible, lie flat in a low area and cover your head.
Flood Safety
-Never drive through flooded roads Turn Around, Dont Drown. Six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet, and two feet can carry away a vehicle.
-Avoid walking through floodwaters, which can hide debris, contaminants, or swift currents.
-Move to higher ground immediately if flash flooding is possible in your area.
Build a Disaster Supply Kit
Every household should have a disaster kit containing:
-Water and non-perishable food for at least three days
-Flashlights, extra batteries, and a NOAA Weather Radio
-First aid supplies and essential medicines
-Important documents stored in a waterproof container
-Personal items such as clothing, toiletries, and blankets
