
Archers from across Arkansas gathered in Hot Springs for the 18th annual Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Archery in the Schools State Championship at Bank OZK Arena and the Hot Springs Convention Center.
Magnet Cove High School repeated as state champion in the high school division with a score of 3,385 out of 3,600 possible points. Bryant High School finished second with a school-record 3,305.
Lead Hill High School finished among the top five teams in the state. Lead Hill’s Travis Cook also turned in one of the top individual performances, tying for the highest male score with a 293 before finishing second after a tiebreaker with Magnet Cove’s Cash Hignight.
In the female high school division, Jasper Curington of Arkansas Arts Academy took first place with a score of 290.
In middle school competition, El Dorado Barton Junior High finished first with 3,244 points, followed by Valley Springs in second and Charleston Middle School in third.
Charleston Elementary won the elementary division with 2,994 points.
The event also included a food drive organized by Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry. Salem Elementary collected the most donations with 2,344 cans of food. Overall, more than 7,800 pounds of food were collected for area food banks.
