A former Ava School District employee is facing charges of statutory rape and child molestation following an investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities arrested Amber Browning in connection with the case. The Ava School District said Browning’s employment was terminated after officials learned of the charges.
Investigators say a former student came forward to report an alleged sexual relationship that occurred several years ago.
Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase said there is no indication the alleged incidents occurred on school property.
In a statement, the Ava School District said it is aware that a former employee has been charged with serious crimes and took action immediately after learning of the charges.
District officials said they do not have any information indicating the allegations are connected to the school environment but emphasized that the district does not tolerate or employ individuals who engage in such conduct.
The district added that student safety remains its top priority.
The case remains under investigation.
