MHHS Bomber Band at the ASBOA Region VI Concert & Sightreading Assessment held in Harrison
All three Mountain Home school bands earned Superior First Division ratings at the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Region VI Concert Assessment held in Harrison over the weekend.
Each ensemble performed a march along with two additional selections from a prescribed music list based on school size and group ability. Performances were evaluated by band directors from across the state.
The Mountain Home Junior High Blue Band, directed by Alex Garcia, the MHJH Gold Band under the direction of John May, and the Mountain Home High School Bomber Band led by Tom Chentnik each received First Division ratings for both their prepared performance and sightreading.
The results qualify all three groups for the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award. Junior high bands earn qualification through superior ratings in prepared performance and sightreading, while high school bands must also earn a superior rating during marching season in the fall.
The Mountain Home band program will next present its annual “Night of Percussion” concert Thursday evening at 6:30 in Dunbar Auditorium. All percussionists in grades 6 through 12 will perform under the direction of Johnathan Hufford.
Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
