An Izard County man was killed early Sunday in an officer-involved shooting in Augusta south of Newport, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP).

Special Agents with the ASP Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the shooting, which occurred Sunday at a residence in the 1100 block of White Drive in Augusta in Woodruff County.

Authorities say deputies with the Woodruff County Sheriff’s Office responded around 4:13 a.m. to assist Augusta Police with a disturbance. During the incident, a deputy discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Randy Ealy of Franklin, died at the scene. Franklin is located about 11 miles west of Ash Flat in Izard County.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

Ealy’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.

Investigators will submit a case file to the Woodruff County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law. The investigation remains ongoing.
