Area baseball and softball results from Thursday

In area baseball action Thursday, Flippin defeated Mountain View 9-5, while Norfork earned a 9-6 win over Viola. Yellville-Summit fell to Valley Springs 13-1, and Salem cruised past Bergman 17-2.

In softball, Calico Rock dropped a 7-5 decision to West Side. Mountain View picked up a 4-2 win over Flippin, and Cedar Ridge defeated Izard County 9-6. Yellville-Summit rounded out the night with a 15-1 victory over Valley Springs.

Viola also picked up a 14-9 win at home over Bakersfield, improving to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play following a 30-0 victory over Omaha earlier in the week.

The Lady Longhorns totaled 16 hits in the win. Abby Hutson, Cheyenne Newberry and Morgan Newberry each recorded three hits in five plate appearances, while Anna Tankersley added two hits. Hartley Crawford delivered a key hit in the sixth inning to spark a rally, and Joey Harber, Maggie Perryman, Ryleigh Golden and Avery Rogers each contributed hits that led to runs.

Rogers went the distance in the circle, pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

Viola will return to action following spring break, hosting Cave City and Highland in a round-robin tournament March 28 beginning at 11.
