The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired minor league infielder/outfielder Brayden Smith from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet, who was designated for assignment.
Smith, 22, was selected by Baltimore in the 13th round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State. The 6-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitter has split time between second base and the outfield in his brief professional career, appearing in games at second, left field and right field across two minor league levels.
Before turning pro, Smith played two seasons at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to Oklahoma State, where he hit .304 with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and a .936 OPS in 54 games during the 2025 season.
The move adds a versatile young bat to the Cardinals’ minor league system.
