A Norfork man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop early Friday morning behind a business on Highway 5 South.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducting a building check at a store on Highway 5 South observed a blue Jeep with a damaged windshield parked behind the business with its headlights on. The vehicle did not have a license plate.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old James Cox, was unable to provide a driver’s license, insurance or a bill of sale. A records check showed Cox had a suspended license and active warrants through local agencies. He was taken into custody without incident.
During a search, deputies located a baggie containing approximately 3.6 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and another containing 0.79 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana. Three syringes were also found on his person.
While securing the vehicle, a deputy observed a black KelTec .22 magnum pistol between the driver’s seat and center console with a round in the chamber and the selector set to fire. A glass pipe commonly used for marijuana was also found in the console.
Further search of the vehicle uncovered a gym bag containing two additional syringes, a marijuana grinder and a glass pipe with residue believed to be methamphetamine.
He is charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic violations, including driving on a suspended license, no insurance and operating an unsafe vehicle.
Cox is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $11,445.
