A juvenile was arrested Wednesday morning after making a social media threat related to a shooting at Maumelle Middle School.
Maumelle Police say the suspect was taken into custody before the start of the school day, allowing officials to address the situation before students and staff arrived on campus.
Authorities say additional security was put in place as a precaution, but normal school operations continued.
Police officials say incidents like this are becoming more common and emphasized that threats made online are taken seriously and can lead to criminal charges.
Students in the district said the threat caused concern, especially given the proximity of the middle school to the high school.
Officials continue to urge students and the public to report threats immediately so law enforcement can respond quickly.
