Rep. Painter: House advances homestead tax credit increase, budget work continues

State Rep. Stetson Painter says it’s been a busy week at the Capitol, with progress made on a proposed increase to the state’s homestead tax credit.

KTLO, Classic Hits and the Boot News spoke with Rep. Painter who says the House passed a resolution to raise the credit by $75, increasing it from $600 to $675.

Painter says lawmakers have also been focused on appropriation bills, reviewing roughly 35 to 40 each day. Some have been held or rejected as legislators work through funding concerns and negotiations.

From a financial standpoint, Painter says the state is expected to end the fiscal year with a surplus.

Looking ahead, Painter says lawmakers will continue work on larger agency budgets next week, including appropriations for education, universities and other state departments.
