
Erich Fortlage shot a 4-under 66 to lead No. 5 Arkansas after the opening round of the SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia.
The Razorbacks finished the day at 3-under 277 and sit in 12th place after 18 holes.
Fortlage, who is tied for 12th individually, matched his career-best round at the SEC Championship. After a bogey on the opening hole, he played the rest of the round bogey-free with six birdies.
Gerardo Gomez also finished under par with a 1-under 69 and is tied for 31st. He recorded 12 straight pars to start his round before picking up two birdies on the back nine.
Niilo Maki-Petaja and Thomas Curry each posted rounds of 71 and are tied for 52nd, while Cam Smith shot a 72.
Despite sitting in 12th, Arkansas’ 277 marks its best opening-round score in program history at the SEC Championship.
Ole Miss leads the field at 15-under, followed by Oklahoma at 14-under.
The Razorbacks will look to climb into the top eight over the next two rounds to qualify for match play.
