Residents in Mountain Home will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during the 16th annual Arkansas Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

Local law enforcement will participate in the statewide effort, with a collection site set up at Tractor Supply Company on U.S. Highway 62 East. The event allows residents to anonymously turn in medications to help prevent misuse, reduce accidental poisonings and protect local waterways.

“Arkansas Drug Take Back Day continues to bring communities together in the fight against substance misuse,” said Kirk Lane with the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership. “We invite Arkansans to take a few minutes to clean out their medicine cabinets, drop off unneeded prescriptions and protect their families and neighbors.”

For those unable to attend the event, a permanent drop box is available at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office on West 8th Street in Mountain Home. The secure box is accessible year-round.

Statewide, law enforcement collected more than 26,500 pounds of medication during last fall’s event, and Arkansans have helped dispose of more than 342 tons since 2010.

Residents can also find additional drop-off locations through the ReviveAR app or online at ARDrugTakeBack.org.
