A Mountain Home man has been released from the Baxter County jail following his arrest on felony charges after two separate incidents Saturday night. Baxter County Sheriff John Mongtomgery says 39 year old Stephen Wayne Nothwehr is charged with aggravated assault on a family member and endangering the welfare of a minor as well as a misdemeanor charge of carrying a weapon.
According to the sheriff, the county 9-1-1 office received a call at 7:16 p.m. requesting a welfare check on a juvenile involving the child’s father and a firearm. At almost the same time the 9-1-1 office received a call reporting a passenger shooting a firearm from the window of a moving green Chervolet Blazer in the area of Ideal RV Center on State Highway 5 North.
When Mountain Home Police responded to the residence on Spring Lake Lane to check on the minor, they learned two children had been with their father, Nothweher. When the 12 year old child returned to the residence, Nothweher had left with his 16 year old son and was going to a residence on Ramona Street where Northwehr was staying.
The 16 year old returned to the residence and told officers his father had called him to pick him up. His father, who had been drinking, was unable to drive due to an interlock device on the vehicle which would not allow it to start. The youth, with the 12 year old, picked up Nothwehr he instructed them to drive to a liquor store so he could purchase more alcohol. Later an argument began in the vehicle and Nothwehr allegedly pointed a pistol at the 16 year old while he was driving. The trio went to a residence on Baxter County Road 13 where Nothwehr was said to have fired a round from the gun into the air. After leaving the County Road 13 residence, Nothwehr again began firing the gun from the vehicle when it jammed. He cleared the jam and fired several more rounds out of the vehicle on highway 5 north in the area of the RV center.
Officers went to the residence at 1021 Ramona where they located Nothwehr who was arrested and taken into custody. A firearm was located and taken into custody as evidence.
Stephen Wayne Nothwehr was released from the jail after posting $25,000 bond. A No Contact Order prohibiting him from contacting the juveniles was issued and he is scheduled to appear in circuit court on October 6.
