Springfield man arrested on outstanding felony warrant

A Springfield man, 52-year-old Don Wilson Rorie, was arrested by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department Saturday afternoon on an outstanding felony warrant for theft by receiving of a stolen firearm. He remains incarcerated on a $2,500 bond.According to the arrest affidavit in the case, Rorie sold a handgun to another individual who suspected the firearm may have been stolen. The buyer was reported to be leery after the purchase and called local law enforcement regarding his suspicion. A Sergeant from The Christian County Missouri Sheriff’s Department did a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) search and the handgun indeed had been reported stolen.

The owner of the gun, who owns a local Gassville business, received a call regarding the Missouri Sergeant’s discovery. He then attempted to make contact with Rorie to clarify how he had come into possession of his firearm. Rorie was apparently not willing to assist the owner in any way.

The handgun was reported stolen in April, 2016 when the Gassville Police Department received a call from an alarm company stating the motion alarm was going off inside the Gassville business. The owner said the only thing he knew was missing was a firearm with an approximate value of $1,200. The box for the gun and the serial number were handed over to police and the information was entered into NCIC.

Surveillance cameras at the business were not working at the time.

Although authorities couldn’t pin Rorie for the actual theft of the firearm, based on the evidence they were able to charge him with felony theft by receiving.
