LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Lawyers for Arkansas death row inmates are seeking more information about Nebraska’s suppliers for the fentanyl it plans to use for lethal injections.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports that the Arkansas attorneys requested in federal court Monday for a judge to order Nebraska to provide information about where its state prison acquired the opioid painkiller it’ll use for an upcoming execution.
The five death row inmates have a pending case in federal court challenging Arkansas’ use of midazolam in executions.
The attorneys call fentanyl a “more humane alternative to Arkansas’ current use of midazolam,” which they say has been linked to several prolonged and tortuous executions.
The lawyers say Nebraska refuses to provide the information that they need to determine whether the drug could be made available in Arkansas.
