SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ A Springfield man has pleaded guilty to burglary and
property damage in an incident resulting in him being shot by his child.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 38-year-old Wendell Hopkins pleaded
guilty to first-degree burglary and misdemeanor property damage on Monday. He’ll
be sentenced in September.

Hopkins was shot by his teenage son in 2016 after trying to break into his
ex-wife’s home. Greene County court records allege Hopkins had a history of
domestic violence against his ex-wife, Mandi Hopkins.

Mandi Hopkins has called her son’s actions courageous. She says she feared
Hopkins would assault her when he attempted to enter her home two years ago.

Police have no plans to charge the teen with a crime.
