Delinquent land auctions in northern AR begin Wednesday

The sale of tax delinquent property in northern Arkansas kicks off Wednesday afternoon with the first in a series of auctions. The sale of tax delinquent property in Marion County is set to be auctioned at 1:00 at the Durand Center in Harrison.

Thursday morning at 10:00, the next sale is scheduled at the Searcy County Courthouse in Marshall.

Next Tuesday afternoon at 1:00, tax delinquent property in Baxter County will be auctioned at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County.

On August 29th at 10:00, Fulton County property will be auctioned in the Hickinbotham-Miller Exhibit Building at the fairgrounds.

In Izard County, the sale of tax delinquent property is set for the morning of August 30th at 10:00 at the courthouse in Melbourne.

In Stone County, the auction will be held on the morning of September 19th at 10:00 in the library at Mountain View.

Arkansas Land Commissioner John Thurston said at the time of the auctions in 2017 the process involves the sale of real property of land and homes as a result of owners not having paid taxes on these properties.

If the Office of the Land Commissioner is unsuccessful in its efforts after the two-year period, the property becomes eligible for auction.

Commissioner Thurston says returning the property to tax generating status is important to public schools.

Commissioner Thurston says the original property owner still has 10 business days after the auction transactions to pay the delinquent taxes and reclaim the land or house.
