COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ A 27-year-old central Missouri man has been sentenced to
22 years in prison for a fatal school bus crash.
A Boone County judge on Tuesday sentenced Brandon Brill, of Clark, to 22 years
in prison for the September 2017 crash that killed 37-year-old Brian Simpson, a
Harrisburg teacher and cross-country coach.
Brill pleaded guilty in July to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and
second degree-assault.
Investigators say Simpson was driving students to a track meet when Brill’s
pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the Harrisburg bus, which
overturned and caught on fire.
Simpson died at the scene and five students were taken to the hospital.
Brill said he had worked more than 100 hours before the crash and was driving
home from a 16-hour shift at a Centralia nursing home.
