Local high school teams have mixed results in tournament play

The Gainesville High School girls’ basketball team was sent to the consolation side of the Sparta Lady Trojan Tournament on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Verona by a final of 44-40.

The North Arkansas College Invitational Senior High Tournament wrapped up its quarterfinal round at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. In the boys’ games, Marshall was eliminated after Deer posted the 79-72 decision, and Western Grove defeated Jasper 59-48. On the girls’ side, Valley Springs routed Kingston 66-28, and Omaha was bounced by Jasper 48-40.

Elsewhere, Flippin’s high school teams had mixed results as they hosted Lead Hill. The Bobcats took the boys’ game over the Tigers 80-57. Flippin was not as fortunate in the girls’ contest as they fell to Lead Hill 58-50.

It was a rough night for Mountain Home on the junior level as they were swept in three games by Douglas MacArthur at Jonesboro.
The Junior Bombers lost the freshmen boys’ game to Cyclones 40-27. Mountain Home falls to 4-12 on the season.
Mountain Home did not fare any better in the freshmen girls’ contest. The Junior Lady Bombers fell to MacArthur 39-24.
The evening began with Mountain Home losing the eighth grade boys’ game 24-16. Masen Walker led the Eighth Grade Bombers with 11 points. Mountain Home drops to 6-3 on the year.
All three Mountain Home teams will be in Paragould Monday to face Greene County Tech.

Cotter won a pair of junior high girl’s games against Bruno-Pyatt. The Junior Lady Warriors were 36-31 winners. Kate Cheek pumped in 20 points as they improve to 8-5 on the season.
Cotter won the 7th grade girl’s game 15-1 to improve to 3-2.
