Basketball makes up much of the local Saturday schedule with area teams in tournament play.
The North Arkansas College Invitational Senior High Tournament will come to an end with the championship games held at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m. between Norfork and Valley Springs, and the boys’ contest will pair Valley Springs with Western Grove at 7:30.
Gainesville’s girls will compete for the consolation championship of the Sparta Lady Trojans Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs meet Pierce City at 1:30.
The annual George Kell Classic will get underway in Swifton. On the girls’ bracket, Izard County faces Harrisburg at 4:40, and Salem takes on Tuckerman at 7:20. On the boys’ side, Salem plays Trumann at 6:00.
A few area junior high teams will take part in the Screamin’ Eagle Invitational Tournament at Hillcrest Elementary School in Lynn. In girls’ action, Salem gets underway at 10 a.m. against Sloan-Hendrix, Viola will be paired with Corning at 12:30, and Mammoth Spring meets Hillcrest at 5:30. In the boys’ games, Viola faces Crowley’s Ridge Academy at 11:15, Salem takes on Cedar Ridge at 1:45, and Mammoth Spring plays Corning at 4:15.
