Sixth through eighth grade students at the Izard County School District have chosen to participate in the Veterans of Foreign War’s Patriot’s Pen essay contest. “Why I Honor the American Flag” was this year’s theme, and it was ICC’s first year to participate.
Melissa Terrell, quartermaster of VFW Post #4687 in Melbourne says third place went to Garrett Roberts, second place to Porter Burton and first place to Elijah Wilkes. Each student received a certificate, medal, and prize money.
First and second place winners were sent on to VFW district.
