Local basketball teams win tournament finales

The Dora High School boys’ basketball team was able to dominate in the championship game of the Family Pharmacy Panther Classic Saturday in Mountain Grove. The Falcons beat up on Marshfield by a final of 81-47.

Gainesville’s boys finished seventh in the Sparta Trojans Basketball Classic. The Bulldogs defeated Lighthouse Christian 70-60.

The Izard County Invitational Basketball Tournament came to an end Saturday at Melbourne.
Izard County won its second consecutive senior boys’ title and fourth in five years after beating Calico Rock 83-47. Coby Everett led the Cougars with 27 points, Caleb Faulkner and Justus Cooper scored 15 each, and Dylan Tharp added 13. Izard County improves to 30-4 on the season.
The remaining three championship trophies will stay in Melbourne, including the senior girls’ trophy. The host Lady Bearkatz topped Highland 65-44.
Melbourne will also keep the junior boys’ title with them. The Junior Bearkatz picked up a 26-18 victory over Calico Rock.
Melbourne’s junior girls ended up winning two games on the day to win the crown. The Junior Lady Bearkatz beat Mammoth Spring 49-20 in the morning session and later topped Rural Special 49-22 in the title game.
