Craft RecordingsThis past November, Creedence Clearwater Revival marked the 50th anniversary of its self-titled debut by releasing a vinyl box set called The Complete Studio Albums, featuring half-speed remastered versions of all seven of its studio LPs. Now you’ll be able buy some of them as standalones.
Vinyl editions of the influential roots-rock group’s first two albums, 1968’s Creedence Clearwater Revival and 1969’s Bayou Country, are scheduled to hit stores on March 15.
Both LPs will be pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl and will feature audio remastered at half-speed at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, which results in higher-quality audio. The discs come housed in jackets replicating the albums’ original packaging.
The albums were mastered by award-winning Abbey Road Studios engineer Miles Showell, who explains, “Up until now a lot of processing has been done on these recordings, so my approach was to strip them right back and just expose them for what they are — because what they are is great music.”
The Creedence Clearwater Revival album featured the band’s classic covers of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins‘ “I Put a Spell on You” and Dale Hawkins‘ “Susie Q,” the latter of which peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although the group’s self-titled debut only reached #52 on the Billboard 200 chart, it went on to sell a million copies in the U.S.
Bayou Country was CCR’s breakout album, peaking at #7 on the Billboard 200, and featuring the band’s classic tune “Proud Mary,” which reached #2 on the Hot 100. The record also included “Born on the Bayou,” “Keep on Chooglin'” and a rousing cover of Little Richard‘s “Good Golly Miss Molly.”
