LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Arkansas lawmakers are considering legislation that would enable young people to get nursing licenses if they’re part of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The program permits young people brought to the United States illegally as children to remain in the country. It began during President Barack Obama’s administration.
The Arkansas State Board of Nursing began denying licenses to candidates with deferred-action status in 2017. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports Rep. Megan Godfrey is now sponsoring a bill she says would prevent those students from having to move to other states that obtain licenses.
A House committee passed the proposal Thursday.
