
Regional tournament play got underway Wednesday across the Natural State.
Calico Rock is hosting the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at the Harold Ray Jeffrey Gymnasium.
Norfork’s girls were able to clinch a bid to next week’s Class 1A State Tournament. The Lady Panthers invoked the mercy rule as they routed Armorel 83-15.
In the other girls’ game, Calico Rock’s season came to an end. The host Lady Pirates fell to Bay 68-27.
Norfork was eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Panthers were unable to hold on to their lead as Bay went on to post the 65-56 victory.
Izard County grabbed a state tournament berth in the other boys’ contest as they pounded Armorel 74-47. Taylor Reynolds was the Cougars’ top scorer with 31 points and ten rebounds, Justus Cooper also had a double double with 22 points and 13 boards, and Tanner Brooks added 17 points. Izard County improves to 31-9 on the season.
Three local teams began action in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Riverside High School in Lake City.
Yellville-Summit’s boys were one and done as a 40-point effort by Gavin Stone led the host Rebels to a 77-55 decision. The Panthers were led by Cameron Curtis with 15 points, Nash Dowden had 13, and Jacob Gentry chipped in 12.
The Mountain View girls advanced to Friday’s semifinals and secured a state tournament bid after topping Corning 52-41. Kaley Shipman paced the Lady Yellowjackets with 20 points, and Cheyenne Shelton finished with 19.
Bergman was bounced from the tournament in the other girls’ contest. The Lady Panthers lost to Osceola by a final of 59-53.
Salem’s girls were eliminated from the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Carlisle. The Lady Greyhounds were edged out by Brinkley 60-57.
Lead Hill was swept by Jasper in the opening night of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Omaha. The Lady Tigers fell to the Lady Pirates 66-25, and the Lead Hill boys lost to Jasper 48-37.
