Golfer from Newton County leads Chuck Morton Tournament after first day

A golfer from Newton County has the lead after the first day of the Chuck Morton Memorial Junior Championship at Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home. Deer’s Dalton McGinnis shot a four under 68, including six birdies, to take a three-shot lead over Carson Garner of Hot Springs.

Also in the boys’ 16-18 age group, Roby Cooper of Melbourne is ninth with a 78, Rip Finley of Mountain Home is tied for 13th with an 85, Mountain Home’s Gaige Chaney is tied for 20th with an 89, and Weston Hoover of Mountain Home is 20th with a 109.

Leading the girls’ 16-18 group is Abbey Ott of Springdale who shot a two-over 74. Lauren Loving of Mountain Home is sixth with a 96, Ella Brashears of Mountain Home is seventh with a 101, Mountain Home’s Madelyn Smith is eighth after shooting 107, and MaryBeth Rogero is ninth with a 167.

The boys’ 14-15 age group leader is Peyton Ellis with a two-over 74. Max Hough of Mountain Home is 15th with a 92 and Aidan Sanders is 17th after shooting 117.

Leading the girls’ 14-15 age group is Emmerson Doyle of Cabot who shot a two-over 74. Mountain Home’s Reagan Webb is fifth with a 97.

Adam Squires of Little Rock leads the boys’ 12-13 age group with an 80. Mountain Home’s Jack Coleman is second with a 119.

Yinyoe Yang of Conway leads the girls’ 12-13 age group after shooting an 81. Abby Edens of Mountain Home is third with a 124.

Cody Cormican of Mountain Home leads the boys’ 10-11 age group with a 57.

The tournament wraps up Friday at Big Creek.
