Registration is underway at two local churches planning to distribute Thanksgiving meals.Sign-up continues through Monday for boxes of free Thanksgiving meal provisions to be distributed by the First Christian Church in Gainesville. Those who would like to reserve a box should call the church at 417-679-3520. Sign-up is by phone call only. Office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Up to 100 Thanksgiving dinners will be available. The pickup time will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 23.
There are no financial requirements for receiving the meal provisions expected to include a 10- to 12-pound turkey, two cans each of green beans and corn, a box of stuffing and a package of dinner rolls.
Church members are collecting items and funds for the boxes of Thanksgiving feast fixings. Those who would like to help fund this community-support effort may send checks payable to First Christian Church to P.O. Box 125, Gainesville, MO 65655. Note “Boxed Thanksgiving Meal” on the memo line.
In addition, the First Baptist Church of Bakersfield is making plans to distribute 20 Thanksgiving food baskets. One basket per family will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who register.
