FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) – An 87-year-old woman was fatally shot at an apartment complex in Fort Smith on Saturday and the man who shot her was fatally shot by a neighbor, police said.
Police were called to the complex shortly before 7:30 a.m. and found the woman, Lois Hicks, dead inside her apartment and Zachary Arnold, 26, dead outside the complex, according to police spokesperson Aric Mitchell.
Arnold then opened fire on neighboring apartments before being fatally shot by a neighbor, whose name was not immediately released, according to Mitchell.
A suspected motive for the shooting was not released and Mitchell said police were still investigating.
