DERMOTT, Ark. (AP) – A Eudora man was shot and wounded by law officers in southeastern Arkansas after stealing a police patrol vehicle, according to Arkansas State Police..

Travis Haynes, 33, was shot in the leg when a Dermott officer and a Chicot County deputy opened fire as Haynes fled a residence in the stolen police vehicle Friday afternoon, state police said. Police and deputies had gone to the residence in search of Haynes, who was wanted in a series of automobile thefts, according to the state police statement.

Officers found and arrested Haynes about 15 minutes later in the city about 100 miles southeast of Little Rock.

Haynes was taken to a Little Rock hospital with what was described as non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the officers and other details, including how Haynes stole the police vehicle, were not immediately released.
