Dr. Brooks Blevins, native Arkansan and professor of Ozark studies at Missouri State University, is set to make two presentations in the area this week.
On Tuesday evening, Dr. Blevins will present “The History of the Ozarkers” at 6 at North Arkansas College’s South Campus, located at 1515 Pioneer Drive in Harrison. The event will be held in Room M143. Attendees are asked to park in the sun dial upper parking lot.
Dr. Blevins’ presentation is the first in the Buffalo National River Partners’ education programs for 2022.
The group notes in a social media post that a number of interesting offerings will be presented in a variety of locations, including the Boone and Newton County libraries and North Arkansas College.
The group is looking for education coordinators for Baxter, Marion, Searcy and Washington counties to offer its programs throughout the river corridor. Those who enjoy communicating with interesting people and organizations that are connected to the Buffalo National River may contact the group at bnrpinc@gmail.com.
On Friday evening, Dr. Blevins will be the guest speaker at the Searcy County Historical Society at 7 at the First Christian Church in Marshall.
Dr. Blevins recently completed a three-volume “History of the Ozarks” and will have those available at the meeting. His topic for the historical society meeting is “Landowners Along the Buffalo.” A group spokesperson says this should be of much interest to long-time Searcy County folks who remember when there were landowners along the Buffalo.
