A man carrying multiple guns and knives has been arrested after he pointed one of the guns at police. Thirty-one-year-old Jacob Cole Barnes of Mountain View is facing several charges in connection with the incident Friday night.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Mountain View police and the Stone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a man walking on Brewer Avenue carrying a weapon. As an officer from the Mountain View Police Department arrived, he observed a male subject, later identified as Barnes, walking in the middle of the road. When the officer activated his take down and overhead emergency lights, it’s alleged Barnes raised a gun and pointed it in the direction of the officer.
The officer took cover while instructing Barnes to drop the weapon and show his hands. Barnes lowered the gun but refused to show his hands and attempted to use his phone.
A member of the Stone County Sheriff’s Office arrived and was able to take Barnes into custody.
After being hand cuffed, officers discovered an AR-15 with a magazine in the well and one round in the chamber along with another full magazine on Barnes. Officers also discovered two fixed blade knives. In the bag and jacket Barnes had with him, officers found a .40 caliber pistol and two magazines. A white tube believed to be used for ingestion of a controlled substance was also discovered.
Barnes is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanors of refusal to submit to arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
