
Four area state legislature races held runoff elections Tuesday. Three winners have secured their seats in January, and another will face another opponent in November.
Steven Walker will be the next representative for District 27 after beating Timmy Reid in the Republican primary. Walker secured 53% of the tally, and Reid had 47%. Walker will not be opposed in the general election. District 27 includes portions of Baxter, Izard, Searcy, Stone and Newton counties
Trey Steimel won his Republican primary to become the District 2 representative. Steimel ended up with 59% of the vote total, and State Representative Marsh Davis finished with 41%. District 2 includes portions of Fulton, Sharp and Randolph counties.
Representative John Payton will move from the House to the Senate in January after winning the Republican primary for District 22. Payton finished with 59% of the votes, and State Senator James Sturch had 41%. District 22 includes portions of Fulton and Izard counties.
A new state senator will represent District 28 next year after challenger Bryan King defeated incumbent Bob Ballinger for the Republican nomination. King secured 54% of the tally, and Ballinger had 46%. King will face Democrat Jim Wallace in November. District 28 includes portions of Boone and Newton counties.
