More details have been released about what caused a fire Sunday night that damaged approximately 26 boats and a dock at Tracy Ferry Marina on Norfork Lake.
According to the incident report, the boat owner told Baxter County Sheriff’s deputies as he and his family were getting the running lights connected and working on the boat, the motor was running when it suddenly exploded and burst into flames.
The owner says the fire was present in the back half of the boat. The family evacuated to a safe area and called 911. The owner states two men came with fire extinguishers but did not succeed at putting out the fire.
One person, who was not identified, sustained burn injuries to the back of the head and neck and was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center.
According to Tracy Area Fire Chief Tom Bensman, fire personnel were dispatched around 9 Sunday evening to one of nine docks at the marina. Crews were on the scene for nearly 3 1/2 hours. Tracy Area was assisted on the scene by the Gamaliel, Salesville, Henderson, Mountain Home and Norfork fire departments, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
