
Something happened in Mountain Home Thursday that had not happened in 3,624 days or just shy of ten years. A triple digit temperature was recorded at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service, as the thermometer topped out at an even 100 degrees. Its the first time since Aug. 5, 2012 a triple digit reading has officially happened.
The next question is if triple digit temperatures will occur on back-to-back days. The forecasted high for Friday is 103 degrees. The last time triple digit temperatures happened consecutive days in Mountain Home was June 28-July 2, 2012.
Going back to the summer of 2012, it was one of the hottest ever in Mountain Home. That year saw 19 days with temperatures of 100 or more and seven days with a high of 99. On June 28 that year, a high of 107 was recorded.
The highest temperature ever recorded in Mountain Home happened Aug. 9, 1934, when the high was 114. Six of the top 10 hottest temperatures ever in Mountain Home happened during the summer of 1934.
The second highest temperature in Mountain Home is 112 degrees which has happened three times, including most recently on Aug. 3, 2011.
