If you thought it felt hotter Wednesday than it has in a while, you were spot on. The high temperature at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service, hit 106. While it was not a new record, it has been more than a decade since the thermometer has been that high.

The last time Mountain Home had a temperature that high was June 29, 2012 when the high was 107. That year, the mercury hit triple digits 19 times. Wednesday was the fifth time this year the temperature has been at or above 100 degrees.

The 106 degrees was not an official record for Mountain Home, missing the record of 107 set in 1934.

The National Weather Service also has a thermometer at the Baxter County Airport in Midway. That thermometer hit 107 Wednesday which broke the previous record of 102 for the date at the airport.

The question now is…how many consecutive days of triple digit heat will the area see? The forecast is calling for highs at or above 100 degrees through early next week. The last time we saw five consecutive days of triple digit heat was in 2012. The last time six straight days happened was in 1980. The last seven day stretch of triple digit readings also happened in 1980. Also, 1980 had a stretch of 11 days in a row with triple digit heat, but that is not the all-time record in Mountain Home. The record is 17 consecutive days at or above 100 which happened in 1936. That year also had a stretch of 16 straight days.
