A Mountain Home man has been arrested for breaking into two houses but says one of them should not count. Mountain Home Police arrested 26-year-old Kevin Andrew Gerts of Yellville Tuesday morning.
Police were first called to a residence on Laurel Road when the homeowner woke up and found someone in his house. The homeowner grabbed a gun and the suspect took off.
About two hours later, police responded to a house on Meadowbrook Lane when the homeowner found someone in their home.
Police were able to locate a male riding a bicycle matching the description given by both homeowners.
During questioning by investigators, Gerts admitted to going into the first house because he was hungry. He also admitted to stealing the bicycle he was riding, but could not remember where he stole it. Gerts then admitted to entering the sun room of the second residence, but said it was not illegal because the sun room is not part of the house.
Gerts is charged with two felony counts of residential burglary and a misdemeanor count of theft of property. Online jail records indicate he is also being held on a court hold for previous charges and a parole violation. Bond is set at $70,000.
