Baxter Health seeing increase on RSV cases in area

A common virus among children, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is seeing an increase of reported cases in the Twin Lakes area.

According to Stephanie Free, MSN, RN, CIC, Baxter Health’s Infection Prevention Coordinator, October saw 20 cases so far in the emergency room, with two of those cases needing to be admitted to the hospital. Free joined KTLO, Classic Hits, and The Boot News to talk about the increase of cases and what parents should do if their child is sick.

Free states adults can contract RSV, but are not as susceptible to complications from the virus as children are. For most adults, RSV is like the common cold, but there are some differences to look out for to know if it is COVID, the flu or RSV.
