During last week’s regular meeting, the main topic of discussion for the Ozark County Board of Commissioners was maintenance and improvement projects on county-owned buildings. Sheriff Cass Martin was invited to the meeting since the Ozark County Jail was among those buildings needing repairs.

According to the Ozark County Times, Presiding Commissioner Terry Newton asked Martin to come up with some information about the roof and what needs to be done. The sheriff said the current flat roof at the jail continues to leak, and he believes the water leaks have caused some electrical and wiring issues over the years.

The leaks have reportedly damaged several of the ceiling tiles at the sheriff’s office, and Newton says the courthouse has the same issue. He was also told by boiler inspectors some of the necessary regular maintenance on the boiler system had not been completed.

In addition, the county is also looking at the handicap ramp on the west side of the courthouse. The ramp is reportedly too steep to comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Newton also says some of the concrete on the ramp is in bad shape and is failing, and the county would see how it can be remedied.

Newton adds the county’s heating and cooling systems will soon be inspected.
