Conway girls, Jonesboro boys win Class 6A state titles

The second day of Arkansas’ high school basketball state championships began Friday afternoon with the Class 6A games.

Conway captured the girls’ title as they beat the defending state champs from North Little Rock by a final of 62-53. Chloe Clardy was named the game’s most valuable player as she led the Lady Wampus Cats with 20 points, Savannah Scott scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Alexis Cox added 14 points. April Edwards had 20 points for the Lady Charging Wildcats, Ja’Miya Brown provided 13, and Jocelyn Tate chipped in 10. Conway finishes its season at 28-5, and North Little Rock falls to 26-6.

After winning the last two state championships in Class 5A, Jonesboro’s boys moved up this year and captured the Class 6A crown with a 48-43 win over Springdale. The Hurricane was led by game MVP Deion Buford with 15 points, and Phillip Tillman finished with 11. For the Bulldogs, Courtland Muldrew ended up with 14 points, and Isaiah Sealy added 10. Jonesboro’s final record is 30-3, and Springdale drops to 25-9.
