The Class 1A State Track Meet was held Tuesday at Hendrix College in Conway, and a few area athletes were able to come away with top finishes.
On the girls’ side, Mammoth Spring finished in sixth place as they were led by Bailey Hocum, Lauren Mitchell, Terra Godwin and Briana Hocum who won the 4×100-meter relay, and Mitchell was third in the 200-meter dash. Omaha ended up eighth as Dana McDonald finished second in the shot put, Lindsey Williams ended up third in the 100-meter hurdles, and the Lady Eagles’ 4×800-meter relay team took third place. In addition, Marleigh Dodson of Norfork was second in the high jump.
In boys’ action, Omaha ended up in seventh place as their top performance came from a second place finish in the 4×800-meter relay. Also, Luke Lane of Western Grove won the discus.
The overall state championships were won by the boys’ team from Trinity Christian and the girls’ squad from Decatur.
