The Arkansas Sports Media has elected its Super Teams from the high school basketball season, and the list includes five current athletes and one former athlete from the area.
On the girls’ side, Bergman senior Maddi Holt is making her second straight appearance as a member of the first team. Holt is the state’s all-time leader in three-pointers made at 433 and fourth all-time with 3,078 career points. As a junior, she led the Lady Panthers to the Class 3A state championship. This year, Holt averaged 24.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She has signed to continue her athletic career at Harding University in Searcy.
Farmington senior Jenna Lawrence is also on the first team as a unanimous selection. Lawrence spent her freshman and sophomore years as a member of the Melbourne High School team and won two state titles with the Lady Bearkatz. She led the Lady Cardinals to the Class 4A state title last month and was named the championship game’s most valuable player. She’ll continue her playing career in Fayetteville as an Arkansas Razorback in the fall.
Viola senior A.J. McCandlis is a three-year member of the Super Team and is the only repeat on the second team. She finished her career with over 2,500 points. McCandlis will head to Cleveland, Mississippi, this fall to play for Delta State University.
Salem junior Marleigh Sellars joins McCandlis on the second team. Sellars was named the most valuable player when she led the Lady Greyhounds to the Class 3A state title in March. She averaged 19.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, five assists and 3.3 steals per game this season.
One other athlete received recognition on the girls’ side. Mammoth Spring’s Brynn Washam was named honorable mention.
