
Several area high school baseball and softball teams began regional tournament play on Thursday.
Two local baseball teams played their openers in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Greenland. Cotter erased a 6-0 deficit and clinched a state tournament bid by squeaking past Mountainburg 8-7. Yellville-Summit’s season came to an end as they fell to Lavaca 25-3.
The Class 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament got underway at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. Norfork will be going to next week’s state tournament after edging out Hillcrest 8-7. Viola will be the Panthers’ opponent in the regional semifinals after they breezed past Crowley’s Ridge Academy. Calico Rock came up just short in the opening game as they fell to Armorel 8-7.
Flippin’s baseball team was one and done in the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Bobcats lost to Charleston 20-3.
The Melbourne baseball team was able to secure a state tournament berth after the first game of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Tuckerman. The Bearkatz defeated Manila 8-5.
Three area baseball teams were at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison for the start of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament. Lead Hill’s season will continue into next week after they pounded Mulberry 15-1. Omaha was bounced from the tournament with a 17-3 loss to Ozark Catholic. Jasper was also one and done after falling to County Line 21-9.
Three area softball teams began action in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Greenland. Cotter is guaranteed a state tournament bid after shutting out Magazine 15-0. Yellville-Summit’s season ended with a 13-0 loss at the hands of Mansfield. Marshall came up just shy as they lost a high-scoring game to Lavaca 22-21.
Two area softball teams were at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison for the start of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament. Flippin was eliminated from the tournament with a 12-1 loss to Hackett. Valley Springs will be playing in next week’s state tournament after routing another group of Lady Tigers from Charleston 13-3.

Calico Rock also advanced to the regional semifinals after defeating Armorel 9-2. Mammoth Spring watched its season end after they fell to Shirley 7-1.
Two area softball teams will be advancing to the state tournament after winning their openers in the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Tuckerman. Salem topped Rivercrest 8-3, and Melbourne destroyed Corning 16-2.
Izard County’s softball team was eliminated from the Class 2A Central Regional Touranment at Magnet Cove. The Lady Cougars fell to Bigelow 3-1.
