Norfork baseball team finishes 2nd, Cotter teams finish 3rd in regional tournaments

Several area baseball and softball teams wrapped up regional tournaments on Saturday.

Two area baseball teams took part on the final day of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. Norfork lost the championship game to the host Eagles 15-2, and Viola finished fourth with a 13-1 defeat at the hands of Armorel.

Cotter’s baseball team ended up third in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Greenland. The Warriors squeaked by Lavaca 7-6.

The Melbourne baseball team won the third place game in the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Tuckerman. The Bearkatz topped Walnut Ridge 5-1.

Lead Hill’s baseball team took fourth place in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Tigers lost a high-scoring game to County Line 22-12.

Cotter also finished third in the Class 2A West Regional Softball Tournament at Greenland. The Lady Warriors routed the host Lady Pirates 17-4.

Two area softball teams squared off for the championship of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Greers Ferry West Side. Viola ended up falling to Calico Rock 2-1.

Two other area softball teams competed on the final day of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Tuckerman. Salem needed an extra inning, but they were able to finish third with a 6-4 win over another group of Lady Greyhounds from Newport. The championship game ended with Melbourne falling to Tuckerman 2-0.

The Valley Springs softball team ended up fourth in the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Tigers lost to Booneville 13-7.

Jasper’s softball team is the runner-up of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Lady Pirates fell to Scranton 17-7 in the title game.
