Two Boone County men are facing multiple charges after entering a home unannounced while intoxicated.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a residential break in on April 15. The victim told dispatch two males, later identified as 21-year-old Tanner Still and 25-year-old Lane Shockey, walked into his home unannounced and left in a silver flatbed dually truck.
Upon arrival, the victim told deputies Still and Shockey appeared very intoxicated and stated he believed one of the suspects was filming him and his girlfriend while they were sleeping.
A short time later, deputies located a vehicle matching the description from the victim and initiated a traffic stop. Still and Shockey were in the vehicle and deputies noted they appeared to be intoxicated. Deputies detained the two, and during an investigation located open containers inside the vehicle.
The first victim told authorities he was woken up at approximately 4:55 to two males in his room and stated he recognized both as being Still and Shockey. The victim stated Shockey was trying to lure the victim outside to fight while Still was filming by the door. He stated he told Shockey he would go out and fight him and went to wake his mother, who was also in the home. When he told Still and Shockey he had called 911, they both hurried outside and got into their vehicle. The victim reported Shockey said “catch me around later” and left the area. The victim stated Shockey had been wanting to fight for the past two weeks and he told him numerous times to “grow up.”
The victim’s mother reported when her son woke her up, she ran to the living room and observed two males exiting her front door. She stated she confronted them on the front porch and had been advising them to leave her property when one of them turned around and began to cuss at her, stating his child was inside the residence.
The last victim stated she was staying at the residence with her daughter. She told deputies at approximately 5 in the morning she woke up to Shockey and Still standing over them, attempting to get the male victim to go outside and fight. She stated Shockey is her ex-boyfriend and the father of her daughter.
Once at the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies asked for consent to go through Still and Shockey’s phones to look for the video possibly taken at the scene. Both consented, but no videos or photos were located. Due to both males appearing intoxicated, deputies decided to wait until they were sober to conduct interviews.
After the two were considered to be sober, an interview was conducted where Still told deputies he was talking to Shockey about the woman and her new boyfriend. Shockey stated he didn’t know anything about him and wanted to meet him before he was around the child. Still stated they drove past the woman’s house and noticed she was not home. He told deputies he was friends with the victim for a while and they were just going to “drive by” to see if she was there and when they saw she was, they stopped and knocked on the door. Still told authorities the door was unlocked so “we walked in and Shockey shook them, woke them up and just talk to them for a second.” Deputies asked if he had his phone out during the incident, and Still said yes, he was using the flashlight. Still stated shortly after going outside, the victim’s mother came out “screaming and yelling” and the only thing he said was they were “just coming by to make sure the kid was alright and they left.”
When asked how Shockey knew the victim, he told deputies “he’s seeing my ex ‘ole lady.” Shockey told authorities his intentions were to “just catch them together that was it.” When asked to clarify the statement, Shockey said “just prove that they have been lying to me, she has been saying she hasn’t had the kid around another guy. That’s all I wanted to do, I didn’t want to fight.” Deputies asked Shockey if he knew of any photos or videos taken and he stated there was a video because he “thought we were about to get into it” and advised it had been deleted. Shockey stated the door to the home was unlocked and they proceeded to walk to the victim’s room, wake up the victim and said “I thought you weren’t going to be around my kid.” He said he probably said a couple other words but did not remember. Shockey stated the victim’s mother came out and asked them to leave, so they did.
Still and Shockey have been charged with one felony count of residential burglary and misdemeanor counts of harassment, stalking, endangering the welfare of a minor, and possession an open container containing alcohol. Still has also been charged with a DWI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Both Still and Shockey were released from the Boone County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
