Downtown Mountain Home’s renamed and revamped summer music show kicks off Friday night at 7 featuring the smooth sounds of the group Rio.
Rio consists of Mark and Robin Hargrove and Art Kershaw. At 14, Robin formed her own gospel group and as a member of Black Mountain Bluegrass, she performed at many festivals across the country, sharing the stage with
Lester Flatt, Marty Stewart, and Alison Krauss in the 70s and 80s.
Mark’s musical career started in his teens at school dances and sock hops and has taken him to the Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas, the Palamino club in Winnipeg, and Knott’s Berry Farm in California. He has played all over the country and opened for Restless Heart and Sawyer Brown.
Art has performed many kinds of music, from Bluegrass and Country to Rock and Roll and Jazz, and has toured all over the country, both as a musician and as a sound engineer. He has opened for many acts, from Delbert McClinton to Peter Rowan to Chris Smither, and mixed sound for most of the Bluegrass world.
The trio has been playing together for over 12 years now and has appeared at the Red White and Blue Festival, Cotter Trout Fest, Big Creek Golf and Country Club, Bull Shoals Theater of the Arts, Bridge Bash, Sodie’s Foundation and Grill, the 178 Club, Brent’s Rib House, and numerous benefits and fundraisers.
Friday’s Block Party is free and sponsored by the Salvation Army of Mountain Home. Food vendors have also been secured for the event featuring barbecue, funnel cakes, hot dogs, fresh squeezed lemonade and ice cream. Door prizes have been added to the event also.
