An area school district has selected a new leader for one of its athletic programs. Rian Puckett will serve as the new head coach of the high school and junior high boys’ basketball teams at Salem.

This will be Puckett’s first time to be a head coach on the high school level, and he says he’s excited about the opportunity.

Puckett will lead the Greyhounds after most recently serving as the head boys’ basketball coach at Batesville Junior High School. He is also a former women’s coach at Dyersburg State Community College in Tennessee and the now defunct Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kentucky.

Puckett also played college basketball for a few schools and graduated in 2002 from the former Bethel College, now Bethel University, in McKenzie, Tennessee. He says he was able to learn a lot from the coaches he played for, and he believes that will help him in his leadership role.
