On Thursday, KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot Sports announced former Mountain Home Public Schools administrator Mike Breton would be among Saturday’s inductees into the MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor. Breton is being recognized for his contributions to the Bomber and Lady Bomber soccer programs.

Breton says his passion for the game of soccer began when he was residing in Brazil.

During his time in Mountain Home, Breton and his wife, Karen, were original members of the North Central Arkansas Soccer Foundation. The youth recreational leagues got started about the time Breton’s son started kindergarten. Breton worked as coach and official for the leagues, and as his players grew up and transitioned to high school, he and others realized there was no team for them to keep playing.

The high school programs were established in 1993. Since then, the Lady Bombers have won multiple state championships, and Mountain Home’s boys have also played in five championship matches. In addition, a number of players went on to also serve as kickers for the football program.

Breton says one of the things he has been able to do for the high school teams is serve as their announcer.

Breton has also been recognized for his contributions to the youth programs. The Ray D. Stahl Soccer Complex includes Breton Family Field and the Breton Nature Trail. He says the trail came as a result of a grant proposal he wrote to the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
