An 81-year-old man has been arrested for shooting at a man who rents from him. James C. Reed of Theodosia is facing four charges, three of them felonies, in connection with the incident.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Ozark County deputies responded to a call of a shooting incident on County Road 905 west of Theodosia. The victim told law enforcement he was arguing with Reed, who is his landlord, about getting his stuff off his property when Reed fired a rifle towards him. The round missed the man, but struck his truck a few feet away, leaving it inoperable.

During questioning, Reed told deputies he had been telling the victim to get off his property for several days. He said he didn’t care where the victim went, saying “they can go to heaven or hell, I don’t care.”

Law enforcement found an empty 30-30 casing on the porch near the victim’s truck and a rifle was found in the camper trailer where Reed lives with a spend round in the chamber.

Reed is facing felony charges of armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and harassment in the first degree and a misdemeanor charge of tampering with a motor vehicle.
